Sunrise over a futuristic city with a rocket ship lifting off and a film crew capturing it

Force multiplier for a better world.

About me

I build things and fix what's stalled. I'm a California general contractor and an operator. I get brought in where there's no playbook: a project is over budget, behind, or has never been done. I scope it, buy it, negotiate it, staff it, and own it to done.

I write and negotiate the agreements that make projects run: subcontractor, construction, equipment rental, vendor, utility and real estate. I make sure the right equipment and specifications are on site on fixed dates. I treat safety and compliance as part of the job, not an add-on.

I learn new platforms fast and run my work through AI daily.

I started in construction in high school, doing demolition after school, and worked my way up. My first job was on a Lido Island, Newport Beach home with a private dock.

Based in Bakersfield, CA. Open to relocating and to extensive travel, including international: comfortable with up to 50% travel, domestic and international. I've traveled to 20+ countries and worked extended out-of-town assignments, including over a year away coming home on weekends.

Highlights

California license

General Contractor, Class B

California General Contractor, Class B (General Building). Verify status on the CSLB license lookup. Experience includes residential flips and rehabs, remediation, and whole-house repipes with water-main replacement; hands-on planning, heavy-equipment operation, pipe laying.

Field engineering

Value engineering in the field

When others said it couldn't be done, I designed workarounds to fit existing constraints and got engineers to sign off. I have designed, fabricated, and welded new structural parts, and tested new building products (ICF, micro-rebar) beyond their advertised uses.

Project

Newport Beach custom home

Newport Beach harbor-front custom home: worked the 1998 build (a shack rebuilt as a custom home) and its 2021 rehab. Scope included 2+ miles of low-voltage wiring (Cat 6, coax, speaker), a whole-house copper-fabric Faraday shield, an improved double seawall, automatic storm shutters, and materials chosen for corrosion resistance in salt air and seawater.

President · 2007

TempServ: safety and cost control

President, TempServ (parent: Park Staffing Services, LLC), 2007. Placed trained crews with oilfield and construction clients. Owned OSHA compliance, worker certifications, safety, and accident reporting. When there was an accident, day or night, I met the crew at the hospital and worked the incident: investigation, insurance recovery, return-to-work. That follow-through kept workers' comp costs down. Revenue grew about 50% in year one.

Executive MBA & USC

Contracts, sourcing & systems

  • Drafted and negotiated subcontractor, construction, rental, vendor, utility and real estate agreements.
  • Ran M&A due diligence and supported investor relations for a publicly traded group; evaluated acquisition targets and recommended against buying one that did not pencil on margin and growth.
  • Repaired broken payroll and liabilities-projection calculations for a state government client (State of Idaho); normalized a federal land agency database (Bureau of Land Management).
  • Taught 175 technology classes; learned each new software in 24 to 72 hours; 92%+ approval.

Equipment & supply readiness

  • As Executive in Charge I owned equipment and specification readiness for specialized crews (camera, lighting, grip) so department heads could execute on fixed dates.
  • Sourced every material and fixture on a coastal custom home to resist salt air, seawater, and storms.

Real Estate & Deal Experience

CA DRE Lic. Agent

I find deals, test them against the numbers, and walk away when they don't work.

  • Hands-on real estate. I have flipped and rehabbed single-family homes, running the planning, the crews and the build myself.
  • A coastal custom home. I worked the 1998 build (a shack rebuilt as a custom home) and its 2021 rehab, from structure to systems.
  • Acquisition diligence. I ran M&A due diligence for a publicly traded group and evaluated acquisition targets. On one target I concluded it was not worth acquiring: the margins and long-term growth did not justify the time it would take.
  • Pre-acquisition audit. I ran a forensic pre-acquisition audit for the board of a publicly traded group.
  • Investor relations support. I supported investor relations for the same group.
  • Contracts. I have drafted and negotiated real estate agreements, along with subcontractor, construction, rental, vendor and utility agreements.
  • Deal analysis. I test a deal on its margins, its growth, and the time it takes from the rest of the business, and I will say no when it does not pencil.

Earlier in my career:

  • Branch Manager, residential mortgage lending, mid-2000s: NovaStar Mortgage, Ultimate Funding and Benchmark Mortgage, putting systems, training and efficiency in place.
  • Branch Manager and Securities Trade Desk, U.S. Bank / Piper Jaffray, 1997 to 1999. Helped build U.S. Bank's first California presence.
  • Previously held Series 7 and Series 63 securities registrations and a California insurance license. Not currently registered.

This section describes my professional experience. It is not an offer of brokerage, investment, tax or legal services or advice.
